“It’s time our state got back to work for people like you and me,” McClendon said in the new ad, released two weeks before Election Day.
CHATTANOOGA, TN - Tennessee House District 30 Candidate Heather McClendon (D-Belvoir) released a new advertisement Monday aimed squarely at the extreme and dangerous agenda being pushed by the supermajority in the Tennessee General Assembly.
“The Tennessee General Assembly is out of control - passing extreme laws that could rip our public schools apart and put women’s lives at risk,” McClendon says in the ad, which will be published on digital and streaming platforms. “I’m running to represent you in the Tennessee House because it’s time we focus on what really matters to Tennesseans - not career politicians.”
McClendon points to the State’s extreme restrictions on women’s reproductive healthcare - the strictest in the country - its refusal to expand Medicaid, and its recent passage of a bill allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons in classrooms on the heels of calls for more gun control as examples of laws passed in stark contrast to what most Tennesseans want.
McClendon also reinforces her support for labor unions and Tennessee’s working class in the advertisement, pointing to her opponent’s attempt to use her office to suppress the vote to unionize at Volkswagen earlier this year.
“Our legislators have proven over and over again to not be interested in serving us - only their special interests,” McClendon said. “When I’m elected, I’ll fight for what we all know is right: Higher wages, better healthcare, and more funding for our public schools - not private corporations.”
Early Voting is underway across Tennessee through October 31. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
